Landcom always starts with people in mind. For Landcom, the best communities are those where people have a strong sense of belonging.
We aim to create places that provide the best foundations for the communities that will use them – for the people who will live and work in our estates and for those who will come to visit. Our goal is to build places that offer the greatest potential for people to interact.
Landcom understands that good community consultation is essential for good development. Our own project experience and research tell us that involving the community early in the planning and development process produces better results for everyone.
We welcome your comments on any of our current projects and initiatives - just send us an email.
Don't forget to include your name, email address and postcode, as well as the name of the project that you are commenting on, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
We run a wide variety of community development programs designed to bring people together and help create the kind of places we all want to live in. Some examples of our more popular programs are set out below.
The Welcome Program
One of our longest running and most popular community development programs is our Welcome Program. The Welcome Program is designed to help new residents settle in more easily into their new surroundings.
All new residents in Landcom estates receive a Welcome Pack that includes a community directory, rail/bus time tables, a guide to council services (recycling tips, garbage collection days, etc) as well as a list of shopping, post office, schools and other facilities in the local neighbourhood.
We also employ a number of ‘welcome workers’ under the program to work directly with the community. Among other things, welcome workers help organise functions and events designed to encourage new residents to get together and build friendships and networks.
We’ve been running this popular program in Sydney's northwest and southwest suburbs for many years, with the help of community-based organisations such as Connections Community Development, Uniting Care Narellan, Macarthur Diversity Services Initiative and Catholic Care Social Services.
The Walking School Bus
One of our more innovative community building initiatives is the ‘walking school bus’, where the ‘buses’ are made up of groups of school children who walk to and from school along pre-set routes and times, accompanied by parent volunteers.
We originally established the walking school bus to reduce traffic congestion around schools that serve Landcom estates and to improve the health and fitness of participants. However, we’ve also found that this initiative has had a positive impact in building community connections among participants.
We piloted our first walking school bus at Parklea Public School in Sydney’s northwest in 2007. By 2013, our sponsorship had grown to 8 schools in Baulkham Hills Shire and Blacktown City, involving around 400 regular participants.

Landcom sponsors a wide range of community events within our estates. These events bring new residents together in a fun environment and help lay the foundation for stronger and more sustainable communities.
Popular sponsored events include family fun days, Christmas carols and sausage sizzles.
