Work has commenced on building an iconic, $13.8m Library and Community Centre for residents of Oran Park Town and greater Camden in Sydney’s west.
The state of the art facility is being delivered as part of a Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) between UrbanGrowth NSW, Greenfields Development Company and Camden Council.
“The Oran Park Town Library will be an iconic building featuring architecture and design that is playful and inspires creativity,” said UrbanGrowth NSW’s Head of Western Sydney portfolio, Matthew Beggs.
“It has been designed as a ‘community living room’ where people of all ages, abilities and interests can come for relaxation and entertainment, play and create, and connect and communicate.”
The building will be 2,500m2 in size and include dedicated group study rooms, young adult spaces, and IT work areas. It will also include a unique outdoor learning area.
“Traditional libraries have largely been a repository for books. The Oran Park Town Library will be a people focused Library with more space dedicated for residents to sit, lounge, socialise and interact in – without being just about books,” Mr Beggs said.
“It will be highly enabled by technology, with a focus on digital media and E-Learning. There will also be the ability to open the centre up as a large community space for up to 300 people.”
UrbanGrowth NSW and Greenfields will be delivering a total of $169m worth of facilities on behalf of Camden Council under the terms of the VPA.
ADCO Constructions will undertake construction of the Library and Community Centre, which is due to be completed by January 2018.
“The commencement of construction represents a major milestone for the developers of Oran Park Town and demonstrates our commitment to the delivery of facilities of the highest standards for the residents of Oran Park Town and greater Camden.
“We’re excited to be delivering this major facility for the use and enjoyment of residents in the south west,” Mr Beggs said.
