Landcom Board of Directors Chair Suzanne Jones said Mr Brogden had done an excellent job in leading the organisation after its separation from UrbanGrowth NSW in October last year.
“Landcom has a proud history of creating new neighbourhoods and has become synonymous with quality housing in Sydney since its inception as the Land Commission of NSW in 1975,” Ms Jones said.
“There has been many changes to the organisation since then, including operating as UrbanGrowth NSW from 2013 to 2017, and then back to Landcom.
“The re-formed Landcom has a new and very clear mandate from the NSW Government - to take a lead role in improving the supply, diversity and affordability of new housing in Sydney and NSW, underpinned by industry-leading sustainability principles.
“John has been a passionate advocate for Landcom’s projects since 2012, as Chairman of the Board of Directors at Landcom, and later at UrbanGrowth NSW.
“He has provided stability and continuity to the organisation since our separation from UrbanGrowth NSW and has championed our new strategic directions since taking the helm as interim CEO six months ago.
“I am pleased to welcome him to the organisation as our permanent CEO and I look forward to working with John as we start a new chapter in the organisation’s history.”
Mr Brogden said it was an exciting time for Landcom, with new ideas and innovation being explored as Sydney faces increased pressure to house its burgeoning population.
“Housing affordability is a serious issue for Sydney, which needs at least 725,000 new homes to accommodate an additional 1.7 million people by 2036,” Mr Brogden said.
“That’s 825,000 homes to be delivered in 20 years, or 41,250 annually – a record number.
“Landcom is taking up this challenge by working with government agencies, the private sector and not-for-profit organisations to deliver a range of housing types that are sustainable, innovative and attractive places to live at various price points across Sydney.
“After a long association with the organisation, I am honoured to be appointed Landcom’s Chief Executive Officer and I look forward to ensuring more Sydneysiders can afford to rent or buy a home in the city.”
Mr Brogden was appointed after a rigorous recruitment process undertaken by Landcom’s Board of Directors.
