Net zero home to power a sustainable future

Designs for a demonstration home which can generate more energy than it uses has been unveiled by Landcom to pilot the future of net zero homes.

Landcom, in partnership with McDonald Jones Homes, is building the interactive home as part of the transformative Panorama development at North Wilton in South-West Sydney. The project will deliver a thriving community of 5,600 new homes over the next 20 years.

The home will feature leading renewable energy technology, sustainable construction methods, resilient building materials and a range of recycled products.

It's been designed to produce enough renewable energy, offsetting the annual carbon emissions of its estimated energy use.

It could save the average household up to $1,700 a year in bills. Once constructed, energy use will be tracked to identify new ways to reduce operating costs.

The partnership with a volume home builder is piloting how net zero operational homes could be delivered at scale and made more accessible to the public.

The display home will be an educational experience for people to come and learn how to incorporate sustainable healthy design for new or existing homes.

The home has been awarded some of the highest certifications in NSW including BASIX 100 Energy score, an As Designed Green Star Homes certification from the Green Building Council of Australia, as well as a leading 8.7 Star NatHERS rating.

This supports one of the key actions of the NSW Government’s Net Zero Cities Action Plan towards a net zero future by 2050.

The demonstration home underpins Panorama's world leading 6-star Green Star Communities rating certified by the Green Building Council of Australia.

Preliminary works have commenced, and the home is expected to be complete in late 2025.

The public is invited to come visit the Panorama Sales Office or visit the website to learn more.

Minister for Planning and Public Spaces Paul Scully

Delivering a home that can generate more energy than it uses shouldn’t only be available through custom-builds.

The Panorama demonstration home will bring net zero homes into the volume home builder market for the first time.

Once again Landcom is pushing the boundaries for home design and development to deliver sustainable homes that makes a positive contribution to the environment, saving people money on bills while reducing emissions.

Our decision to partner with Landcom on this project recognises our commitment to improving sustainability in our business and the housing industry.

Through this home we will soon be able to offer customers the opportunity to access the innovative products used in this project in their own homes.
