Approval received to build 100% affordable homes at Lot 117.

In February 2024 we will lodge a State Significant Development Application for the project with the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, which has now been approved.

With approvals secured, our partner, Link Wentworth will look to begin work in 2026 on the 135 affordable homes, with residents expected to be able to move in from 2028.

 

The project

Sitting at the gateway to the Macquarie Park business district, which is predicted to become NSW’s second-largest economy, Lachlan’s Line is a highly sustainable, thriving new residential community.

Combining brand new apartments with access to high-quality open spaces, parks, retail, education and a booming employment precinct, Lachlan’s Line is also well served by transport connections, with two Metro train stations, bus services, and the M2 Motorway nearby.

By reinvigorating this former industrial site in partnership with the private sector, Landcom has demonstrated excellence in sustainable development through:

  • 18,800m², including a central park with playground featuring all abilities equipment and a learn-to-skate park, plus smaller pocket parks and regenerated bushland
  • investment of $17.2m to widen Delhi Road and ease local traffic impacts
  • delivery of a transit-oriented development that encourages walking and cycling and reduces reliance on car travel
  • adoption of a ‘precinct–wide’ approach to stormwater management, reducing stormwater discharge, improving water quality and minimising water consumption
  • retention of close to half a hectare of bushland and rehabilitation of more than 4,300m² of previously contaminated land in the Porters Creek catchment

Affordable housing

Lachlan’s Line is the first Landcom project to partner with a Community Housing Provider, with Link Wentworth selected to help deliver a 100 percent affordable housing development at Lot 117.

Comprising 135 affordable homes, the project will help low to moderate income households such as key workers to secure accommodation close to transport connections, education opportunities and jobs on their doorstep. There will be a range of innovative rental and ownership options for future residents, who will not only have access to traditional affordable rental models, but also rentals beyond 10-year terms, and potential shared equity options.  

Award-winning architecture studio SJB, have designed the new apartment building to be more sustainable and energy efficient, and to integrate with the surrounding neighbourhood.

Vision

Our vision was to create a vibrant residential neighbourhood centred around a mixed use precinct. Surrounded by high quality apartment buildings, the focal point is a leafy town square with restaurants, a supermarket and community centre.

Creating a place for people

Pathways and cycle tracks, a variety of public open spaces and a community garden support connection and a healthy, active lifestyle at Lachlan’s Line. The retail square, public artworks and the unforgettable blue pedestrian and cycle bridge all encourage community interaction and connection.

Supporting diversity, Lachlan’s Line is to include affordable long-term rental housing to provide homes to very low to moderate income earners.

Integrating environmental sustainability

We applied a precinct-wide approach to stormwater management to reduce stormwater discharge, improve water quality and minimise water consumption. An irrigation tank under Central Park collects and re-uses water from precinct stormwater.

We created extensive parklands, retained remnant bushland, revitalised a creek line and rehabilitated more than 4,300m2 of previously contaminated land in the Porters Creek catchment. We supported the Friends of Lane Cove National Park to regenerate bush in the Lane Cove River catchment.

Lachlan’s Line is a place where people are encouraged to walk, cycle and use public transport rather than cars to reduce carbon pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

Creating a place through heritage and community development

Lachlan’s Line was named after Governor Lachlan Macquarie.

Public artworks make each space in the development unique. For the bushland reserve, Ochre Lawson sculpted Wild Things, three cast bronze sculptures of a powerful owl, ringtail possums and micro bats. For Central Park we commissioned a striking 20m tall sculpture Spire, one of the final works of the late sculptor Mathew Harding.

The most dramatic public artwork and destination marker is the award-winning blue bridge, which has DNA-like double helix of blue metal looping around a pedestrian and cycling path.
