Mirvac Group (Mirvac) and Landcom today marked a significant milestone in the development of Sydney’s $8 billion Green Square Town Centre, with a traditional topping out ceremony for Ovo, the tallest building to be completed in Sydney’s newest neighbourhood.
The ceremony, attended by Planning and Housing Minister, Anthony Roberts, Mirvac CEO and Managing Director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, Landcom Managing Director and CEO, John Brogden, and FJMT design director, Richard Francis Jones, was celebrated by lifting a live tree by crane onto the newly constructed rooftop of the 28-storey apartment building.
Ovo is the second apartment building constructed at Green Square by Mirvac and Landcom, following the completion of the Ebsworth building in early 2017.
“Today’s ceremony, a long held tradition in the construction industry, celebrates the growing momentum of Green Square Town Centre,” Mr Brogden said.
“So far we have welcomed the first residents to the neighbourhood, a new Woolworths store has opened and people are enjoying a popular community space called The Social Corner. “Ovo’s completion in 2018 will see a further 600 or more residents make Green Square Town Centre their home,” Mr Brogden said.
Ovo enjoys special significance as Green Square Town Centre’s tallest tower and occupies the prominent gateway location at the corner of Bourke and Ebsworth streets. It comprises 224 apartments and is part of a total of 302 apartments being delivered across three buildings on this site.
“Ovo is a landmark building for Green Square that has transformed the Sydney city skyline. This prominent and striking building will stand as a testament to the quality and long-term vision of Mirvac and Landcom to revitalise the area and achieve a new world-class global village,” said Mirvac’s CEO and Managing Director, Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz.
The stunning façade of this building, designed by FJMT in collaboration with Mirvac Design, has one of the most complex colour, detail and supply chain logistics systems Mirvac has delivered. It includes approximately 1,800 panels in 134 different shapes and 12 different colours to achieve a harmonic masterpiece.
Ovo enjoys prime position within the heart of Green Square Town Centre’s and will make a meaningful contribution to the evolving retail precinct. Residents will also enjoy the close proximity to the City of Sydney’s future civic plaza, library, parks and aquatic centre.
Construction of Ovo is progressing well, with settlements anticipated to commence in April 2018. The project has had a total of 1,200 individual workers inducted to date.
